Kona Coffee-100% Gourmet will be the theme of November’s 10-day annual Kona Coffee Cultural Festival, and coordinators of the 42nd annual event invite isle artists to capture the essence of the theme in artwork designed to be the official logo.
The winning artwork will be the feature on the 2012 festival button, poster, T-shirt, website, magazine and other promotional materials, giving the winning artist great exposure among the thousands of festival-goers.
“The festival is looking for paintings that clearly express the theme … ” said spokeswoman Malia Bolton. The winning artist will receive a complimentary booth to show his or her artwork at several events during the festival, and will be featured in an article in the Kona Coffee Cultural Festival magazine. The deadline for submissions is Monday, April 9.
The Kona Coffee Cultural Festival, the organization responsible for promoting Kona’s 184-year tradition of unique coffee heritage, has just unveiled the 2012 theme, which “highlights the distinctive history and culture of Kona coffee pioneers, farmers and artisans that celebrate Kona’s hand-picked, gourmet coffee,” said Bolton.
Submissions should be delivered to Bolton at the Kona Coffee & Tea Co., 74-5035 Queen Kaahumanu Highway, in Kailua-Kona, or electronically at maliabolton@gmail.com, with subject line “festival submission.” For more information, or to request a copy of the artwork rules and guidelines, contact Bolton at 896-7907.
